The Marshall Islands is an island republic in the Pacific Ocean, between Hawaii and Australia. Since 1988 the country has operated an international open ship registry.

The register is administered on behalf of the Marshall Islands Maritime Administrator by the US-based International Registries, Inc. (IRI). By tonnage it is today among the largest registers in the world and a much-favoured flag for both merchant ships and large yachts.
