We manage the residence permit application process end to end for foreign vessel owners whose boats are based in Turkey.
A residence permit is the official document issued by the Presidency of Migration Management that allows foreign nationals to stay in Türkiye longer than their visa or visa-exemption period.
For foreign vessel owners whose boats are berthed in Türkiye and who wish to stay in the country for extended periods, this permit is a practical necessity — both for lawful residence and for day-to-day official transactions.
A visa grants the right to enter the country; a residence permit grants the right to stay. It is important to apply before your visa or visa-exemption period expires.
Under Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection, there are six types of residence permit: short-term, family, student, long-term, humanitarian, and victim of human trafficking.
For vessel owners, the most commonly relevant type is the short-term residence permit. Depending on the grounds set out in the law, it may be issued for up to two years. Foreign nationals who own residential property in Türkiye may also apply under this category.
Residence permit conditions, required documents and fees are updated from time to time. The information on this page is for general guidance; the best approach is to review the current position with us before applying.
Tell us about your situation — we'll determine the most suitable permit type and manage your application from start to finish.
